The mantis shrimp only moves a lot when it hunts or borrows underground to make its home. When the mantis shrimp move it moves on the ground. When the mantis shrimp want to hunt the small fish it usually jumps and tries to swim and punch the fish to get it down from swimming. The mantis shrimp walks on sand and doesn't swim, but then it jumps it floats for a brief period of time.

Abiotic and Biotic Factors
Mantis shrimps live near coral reefs to caught fish and fish them for later. The mantis shrimp sometimes build their homes near a rock or under it so, predators can't get in (only if they are really small). They hide beside coral and wait until the prey come by so the mantis shrimp can strike it.
